American comedy rock duo Tenacious D was formed in California, in 1994 by actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Among the accomplishments of the “best band in the world” are a Grammy nomination for their 2012 album “Rize of the Phoenix”, a Grammy award in 2014 for Best Metal Performance and a feature film, “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny”. In 2023, they embarked on The Spicy Meatball Tour which is selling out worldwide, and brought them to the Rockhal in Luxembourg.
Tenacious D appeared onstage to thunderous cheers , Black wearing a T-shirt and shorts decorated with red and yellow flames, and his trademark massive gray beard, jumping and dancing all over the stage – and you could tell he was having a blast.
All of Tenacious’ songs are gross humor revolving around drugs, sex, rock ‘n’ roll, and the devil (whom Black defeats during “Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)” toward the end of the show), which may be a bit repetitive but they are nonetheless a captivating blend of rock and comedy.
Tenacious D are indeed good fun, and they know how to entertain a crowd and keep them engaged. But don’t let their big bellies and middle-age dad appearance deceive you – they’re also skilled musicians and can bring out the power of rock’n’roll , resulting in about 90 minutes of pure unhinged entertainment.
