Scorpions

July 02, 2024 – Luxexpo Open Air

Special guest: Extreme

Scorpions, the iconic German rock band formed in the 70’s, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of their hit album “Love at first Sting”. The concert held at Luxexpo Open Air was a testament to their enduring appeal.

From the moment the opening chords of “Rock You Like a Hurricane” reverberated through the arena, the energy was palpable.

Guitarists Rudolf  Schenker, with his signature Flying V guitar, and Matthias Jabs were in top form, performing their iconic riffs and solos with the synergy of decades of playing together. The band is driven by a solid rhythm section, featuring Pawel Maciwoda on bass and Mikkey Dee on drums. Dee, who joined Scorpions after the death of Motörhead’s leader Lemmy Kilmister in 2016, played a drum solo toward the end of the show that was warmly received by the audience.

Singer Klaus Meine is clearly weakend and much less lively than his colleagues. However, he rises to the challenge: he is fully present and enjoying himself, and still hits the high notes delivering the emotive depth that fans have come to love.

The setlist was a perfect mix of timeless classics and fresh tracks from their latest album, “Rock Believer.” Fans were treated to beloved anthems like “Wind of Change” and “Send Me an Angel,” each song evoking a wave of nostalgia and collective singing from the audience. The newer songs, such as the title track “Rock Believer,” were received with enthusiasm, proving the band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their roots.

Scorpions closed the show nicely with the hits “Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane” leaving us with the good feeling that they still can put on a show of masterful rock’n’roll excellence.
