The Collective tour
October 22, 2024 – Den Atelier, Luxembourg
Kim Gordon is undoubtably the coolest icon in alternative rock since her time in Sonic Youth (which she co-founded with Thurston Moore in 1981), a band that had a huge impact on the alt-rock scene and on the emerging grunge movement . The “Godmother of grunge” also had a strong influence on many feminist artists, in particular the Riot Grrrl punk movement.
Kim Gordon is touring behind The Collective, her second solo album released earlier this year. To demonstrate her evolution beyond Sonic Youth and her bold new sound, she did not play any tracks from her former band, instead performing only her own material, including a complete rendition of her latest album.
From the moment she took the stage the audience was captivated by her magnetic and ineffable charisma. Although she played some guitar, she spent most of the show behind a music stand, delivering her speak-sung lyrics in her trademark monotone, while avant-garde images were projected on a screen in the background.
The overall sound is a fusion of noise music, electronic, house, alternative rock and industrial trap beats, as she is always exploring different sounds drawn from all walks of life and appealing to different generations.
Kim Gordon owned the stage and looked stunning in a black top, black Celine sports shorts and heeled boots. She is an artistic legend who hasn’t slowed down or lost her edge in any way. And, yes, she really is cool…
